Charter Board Partners

Where’s CBP now?

February 12, 2018 | by Charter Board Partners

The CBP team took to the skies and rails to work with partners around the country just before and after the new year. Here’s some of what’s kept us busy:

New Orleans. CBP participated in the 10th annual conference of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools. Lucy and Carrie presented on the difference between governance and management, and the impact and power of having a diverse and inclusive board.

Philadelphia. Kate presented a session on governance best practices at the Philadelphia Charter Operations Conference. The conference was attended by school leaders, authorizers, board members, and service providers.

Tampa, Florida. CBP hosted a networking and training event for 30 board members representing 16 Hillsborough County charter schools. This was the first in a three-part series to improve board governance and build a community of charter board members in the Tampa Bay area.

Washington, DC. More than 100 guests joined us for CBP’s annual holiday party, where we heard from several of the charter sector’s strongest champions: Terry Eakin, former board chair at DC Prep Public Charter School; Dr. Michael Lomax, president and CEO of UNCF; Scott Pearson, executive director of the DC Public Charter School Board; and Venus Valladares, a parent board member at Washington Leadership Academy.

Hearing from Venus was a special treat. She shared with us the unique and critical role that parents play on charter school boards. In case you missed them, you can read her remarks here.
